Hahaha

I finally opted for the more ergonomic 6 stringer indeed.
If it's good enough for Vai, Gilbert, May, Yngwie, Howe,
Schuldiner, Amott, Steer, Bettencourt, etc it's good enough
for Mr Me ;)

Tuning: to Eb please
Let the mayhem begin!

What are my options for the spc and the Afterburner, lay-
out wise (any tips?) are both of them pots? Can they be
switches too?
Do you havce good experiences with them?
Do they feed off the 9V battery of the EMG81 or do they
need a seperate energy unit?

SPC has to be a pot.. afterburner could be a pot OR a switch (if its a switch - then you preset the gain on a trimpot INSIDE the guitar )
This is generally the most convenient way... a preset gain boost at the flick of your switch is very handy.

Its possible for us to mod it a bit so you can have both the gain pot and a separate switch... but then you always have to worry about whether the pot is sitting where you think it is - when you hit that switch!

i have used both circuits, and they work GREAT! (EMG active circuits are truly state-of-the-art)

You can run all of them off the same battery :)

Neck profile: similar to a top of the line American jackson
soloist/... --> superfast and ergonomic, a bit more round
than Ibanez Wizard.... Maybe something of a middle
ground? Neck should be smooth and silky 8-)

Ok you'll have the headstock artwork and pot layout tonight
or tomorrow morning.
There is a chance the SPC won't have to be installed since a
lot of people tell me this is overkill and doesn't add much to
the tone.
Estimated 3 weeks of finishing? That's great!

Btw, please warn me before they start to paint the thing, I
might just want black laquer without the white edge, more
sober.

Is the pearloid inlay a success?

Wow, i simply dont understand the shipping delays in Moscow. I think Michael once said that because of the terrorist attacks they could only ship one guitar a week or so. How would the post office know how many items a person has shipped if they go on different days or different post offices? second, if there is such a delay, why don't you get every luthier in the show to ship a guitar a week (or however many guitars are ready). Third, if shipping from Russia is so pathetic, why dont you travel to one of the Baltic States with much better economies and postal systems and get the damn things out. People shouldn't have to wait 2 months for a finished product.

I will try to explain it as best i can!

Delays in this particular case are twofold... One, we currently have a huge BACKLOG of guitars to ship, (CS-0081 is FIFTEENTH IN LINE!) and secondly - the entire COUNTRY is closed from Dec 31st to January 10th, for the annual drinking party.

But in general, "the shipping problem" is a complex situation - the bureaucracy in Russia is many layers deep, and all of them are geared towards creating bribes for civil servants!

Actually, we don't ship via the post office, we ship via EMS air courier. (The Russian post office doesnt guarantee delivery times!)

In general, the current difficulty is that no matter how many different people SHIP, via how many different carriers - they all end up being processed in the exact same Customs office, which is already well aware of the popular tactic of companies shipping under multiple identities.

Travelling outside of Russia is a silly concept... FIRST, we are 1000 km from the nearest border, and then we would have to deal with THREE different customs offices (leaving russia, entering the 2nd country, exporting from the second country). If you want to add $1000 to your shipping cost, thats an excellent way to do it!

A little extra effort is required to get past the big backlog (which was partially caused by us getting about a dozen orders in one week, and partially caused by Mr. Shamray being lazy, and simply not doing his job for a month or so!) But its likely going to take a change of management in our shop, (including an immediate cash infusion of about $20,000 to buy us an export licence) - coupled with some serious changes in Russian legislation, to fully "normalize" shipping to the standard enjoyed in civilized countries. So we just have to plan on 1-3 weeks "shipping queue" for the forseeable future. (In fact, as of October, I have been informing all clients of that situation up-front - before they place their order...)

In the meantime... if someone really wants to get their guitar shipped the same day its finished, i can take it to FedEx - who will charge $800 to ship, plus another $1200 to "expedite" (bribe) it through customs immediately. Or probably we could have Stepanov hand-deliver it for about the same cost (he enjoys travelling...)

For the fed ex price it would be cheaper for me to fly to moscow, pick it up, go on a mini vacation and bring it home myself. I was about to order a guitar next month, but I'll have to think about it now (unless it could be done by next june, in which case I quite possible could make the trip to moscow and pick it up myself since im in the neighbourhood).

At last!!

Btw, about the strings: what brand do you put on? I'd like a 0.58 gauge for the thick string and then the LTHB set without the high E string (considering it's a 6 string guitar)

Thanks!

Send it asap please, I want to lay my hands on it... Hope it won't be 2 more months or so, lots of gigs ahead where I want to show off ;-)
