CS-1975 review: INTERODUCTION: I've played many hours since I have my Shamray custom guitar received three days ago. I like to write this review so objective as possible... SOUND: 10/10 First I've played without amps: the sound is very(!) loud and there are always many of good vibrations palpable. The construction is thus absolutely resonant which is a good sign for a nice tone. There is very loooooong sustain available. I played through my three different amps (modified Marshall JCM900 Model2500, modified Laney AOR50 II, custom made by my self 5Watt full tube amp) with different settings and speakers. With clean settings is the sound bright but never harsh. There is always something of warm tone inside. The mids are well balanced and the bass is very tight and precise. No muddy bass tone with the neck pickup. The tone and volume potis and both pickups offer a really wide choice of different colors. This babe can produce nice funky sounds or fat warm blues tones. The Chernishev pickups are absolutely nice! They don't compress the tone, are very transparent and offer a comfortable dynamic. And now crunch / distortion settings: I can very smooth control the crunch by using the volume pots or decreasing of the pick attack. Chords are also with high gain very transparent and have nice balls leads comes very assertive. Pinch harmonic notes are very ease.. THIS SHAMRAY ROCKS!!! FINISH / BUILD / SETUP: 9,9/10 The finish is absolutely like I asked for and the quality is really top. I have specified the weight of the complete guitar to max. 4kg. The weight is now 3,950Kg (!!) --> perfect! It was specified a gold toggle switch with black tip and a custom made case. Now is the toggle switch chrome with a white tip and the case is a standard SKB. No problem for me, only to show that I have checked all details. There are few very small nicks and color irritations here and there, only visible from up close. On the top side of the body binding is a on a small area red color blurred. However, absolutely nothing dramatically and I think some tolerance for a 100% hand made piece should be alright... The overall finish is on high quality level. Set up as you'd expect from a custom guitar company: PERFECT! Frets properly set, nut perfect notched, action and intonation are great too. Btw. I never had such a tune stable Les Paul in my hands! Master Sushkov did an excellent job and was really helpful with good ideas during the building process. MY DEEPEST THANKS TO SUSHKOV FOR THIS EXCELLENT WORK!!! SHOP CONTACT: 10/10 All the contact service was always there when i needed it to be and answering to all of my questions and problems. Michael has replied my emails faster than Speedy Gonzalez Thanks for all the pictures during the building process. MY DEEPEST THANKS TO MICHAEL!!! OVERALL MARKING: 20/10 My Les Girl is the best guitar which I have played ever. And believe me, I have had many different guitars in my hands. This CS-1975 plays really like a dream and looks like a dream! The neck is fantastic playable due the handy shape and the satin finish. The weight and the comfort contour cut at upper backside is awesome too. And of course, the TONE is amazing. I'd high recommend Shamray custom guitars over anything else! I think I should replace my Godin midi guitar with a Shamray custom midi next... One more thank to Michael Walker, Master Sushkov, Mr. Shamray and the whole team! All the best, Christophe Chatelain PS: I will post some sound samples next. |
