Congratulations Paul on the birth of your FOURTH Shamray Custom Shop instrument (serial number CS 1958)! We will post pictures of it's construction-in-progress from time to time here in this thread. My goodness...I cant believe my eyes...! This guitar is crafted so fast I'd better start walking to the mailbox in case its been delivered allready Thats a beautifull Sunburst I see here...just the way I like it...thin black outer-line..it looks a bit "reddish" but could be optical... Mr. Shamray : allready any sign of the parts I have send to you ? |

looking at the depth its probably instrument grade, but instrument grade flame is (or should be) more consistent thoughout the wood. | |

No test-drive yet...but its got strings... The brass nut is not cut yet...I guess thats quitte a job comparing to a "bone" nut. Just a little work and its playable ! |

lennart - some curves in its shape are out of natural proportion, IMHO. Of course, some kind of style in guitarmaking is based on unnaturality(for ex. Jazzmaster, Ibanez NDM.... etc ), but they don`t look so pleasant as, for ex. classical Les Paul or Explorer. | |

Although a Strat has been my "main axe" for 32 years now , I must admit that a Jazzmaster is the more comfortable feeling guitar , especialy when played seated...cant say that of a Les Paul... Having played hundreds of guitars I cant think of another guitar feeling more "natural",balanced & well proportioned....Uncle Leo got it right with his offset contour body style !! |

Thats for sure! IMHO, the LP is really just trading on its "feminine" curves - its FAR from an ergonomic design, as far as i am concerned (and i've really tried HARD to like it over the past 30 years or so - since i do enjoy the sound of them!) | |

But those feminine curves are so nice I will admit that the strat design is more ergonomic, but they're not nearly as appealing to me as the Jazzmaster. Your guitar looks beautiful, Paul! |

I agree completely with Michael and Paul. Everytime I play an LP I find it really uncomfortable to play sitting down, and I find I am always trying to adjust my knee so the guitar is closer to my chest instead of sitting so low down on my upperbody. It isn't so bad playing classical style, but it still isn't the best shape for that. Though then again, I like RR's, so I am not sure how much my opinion counts! | |
