Congratulations Goran, on the birth of your new Shamray Custom Shop instrument (serial number CS 1978)! We will post pictures of it's construction-in-progress from time to time here in this thread. For the curious, here are the (updated) specs on CS 1978: Detailed specification: CS-1978 ‘GORAN DRAGONBUZZARD for Goran Rapajic‘ 25.5 inch scale length, NECK-THRU BODY. Body wings of Ribbon figured Khaya FINISH: Entire instrument clear gloss Nitro lacquer finish (natural) 45 mm Nut Width, mammoth ivory nut (20,000 years old, from Siberia) 5-piece Neck, Khaya-Maccassar Ebony-Khaya-Maccassar Ebony-Khaya NECK PROFILE: “medium” D-shaped (same as Warmoth ‘standard-thin’) Angled straight-string-pull headstock, Contoured “heel-less” carve where neck joins body Cocobolo Fretboard, 1o-16" Compound radius, NO fretboard inlays, 24 frets, Medium Jumbo Machine heads: GROVER mini auto-locking black 6-in-line Logo – NO headstock logo, Shamray Custom Shop logo on back of headstock Headstock facings: Ribbon khaya (same as body) on front and back of headstock. Well - 'ALMOST'! We have built 4 "dragon-buzzards" in the past couple of years, but the only 'original' thing I 'designed' on this was the HEADSTOCK. The body is actually based on an idea by Roger Smith! (I just refined it a little...) Roger took his inspiration from John Entwistle's own (highly original) BUZZARD design... you can see Roger's original napkin sketch below: |

Yes, Roger works over at TVR. (in engineering, actually) He drew the design for his custom Alembic (which he ordered about 3 years ago, before i was taking orders for Shamray) I originally got involved because i was helping him digitize his favorite Rickenbacker neck to a CAD file (so he wouldn't have to ship the whole instrument to California, for Alembic to copy!) |

Stepanov called me yesterday - i asked him about this guitar and he said they have the neck-wood, and work is underway. I'm told the Khaya/Maccassar neck lams are completed already Strap locks are certainly possible, but there could be a couple weeks delay if we have to order some in - there are none available here in Moscow. (I might have a set of chrome ones in my own personal stock, but i wont know till next week when i get back from my 'vacation') |

sta da ti kazem za gitaru kada je vidim samo na maloj slichici. ko zna, mozda je to neka djecija igracka. dok je ne vidim ja u to ne vjerujem. sada ozbiljno. gitara je kao zena. mozes da je gledas i gledas i gledas ... , ali dok je ne uzmes u ruke na znas kakva je. a ova "zena" ostavlja bas dobar utisak. izgleda zrelo, kao da zna sta i kako treba da radi i izgleda kao da može mnogo toga da pruzi. ala kenjam. |

to make it short: features: 10 sound: 10 action, fit & finish 10 customer support: 10 overall rating: 10 i tried to find one single misstake on this guitar but i just failed...this guitar sounds like a dream (10 distinctive tones!) and is perfect...despite the way it looks it is comfortable to play... amazing craftmanship-no words... the best guitar i played so far was the warmoth stratocaster but this guitar beats it in all ways... once again thanx pashin vadin for making this guitar, michael walker for refining the body design from roger and designing the headstock (the most beautifull headstock in the world to me) and alexandr shamray for opening the custom shop... i am proud to own this guitar... i wish you all guys the best goran |

The "Dragon Buzzard" body design is actually the brainchild of a guy in England named ROGER SMITH (he intended it for a bass, as a kind of 'tribute' to John Entwistle). He asked for help when he was still just roughing out the lines on a 'napkin sketch', so what you see on Goran's guitar is what eventually evolved into 'my' version of Roger's body design (slightly different from what he eventually had his own bass built as!). (Roger's original sketch!) The headstock is my own original design, which was intended to complement the 'Dragon Buzzard' body shape. Its actually just a slight variant of my earlier "P-01" headstock shape. (see http://shamraybass.com/gallery.htm#1) We have made a number of "Dragon Buzzard" basses, most notably the "P-05" 8-string prototype (which now lives in Florida!) See http://shamraybass.com/gallery.htm#5 ... BTW, we have an "orphan" Dragon buzzard bass (made for display at this years trade show) which will be going up for sale SOON...
