Jon have you picked out your pickups yet.  I would try Jim Rolph from cinternet.  He makes really good PAF's.  TI use them in other guitars.  The only reason I did not use his because Peter Florence lives close to where I grew up in upstate N.Y.  Just wanted to try something different.  I really want to see how your 336 comes out

I'm putting Wolfetones in this one. Wolfes work IMO is better than the Voodoo stuff, and at least equal to Rolph, but more than likely slightly better. If that makes any sense. I had some Rolphs for a while, they are excellent pickups, but I bought them second hand. I hear Mr Rolph asks one too many questions when you order from him...I don't like the idea of having to justify giving him my money. Wolfe is an allround good person and a true craftsman.
Specifically I am going to try out the first pair of limited edition 'Legend' pickups from him. They differ very slightly from the standard Legends that you can see on his site...it should be good to hear them.

Damn bloody foreign software....ahem. Anyway. I will leave the pictures to those in the know from now on. If it needs more than an IMG tag and a copy and paste from photobucket I consider it too much like hard work ;).

The reason why we have not named the crafter...well its all a bit complicated. See, this wont be a normal guitar. It has taken months of research and millions of dollars, but...and I hope Michael doesnt mind me saying...deep in the ice fields of siberia (this sounds good doesnt it?) a group of scientists have resurected none other than Leo Fender himself to build my guitar. Amazing isnt it?

And totally untrue.

The crafter remains a secret.

Well if it is still possible, I'd like to change the neck carve to something mid way between the big neck on the Jr and the standard Gibson '60's neck found on production 335s today.

Steven - Yes I see what you mean now. Although the 3 piece neck is more for functionality over aesthetics, the way they made the neck for my Jr was a thing of beauty in itself. It looks as if the grain runs in one direction for the two outer pieces and the opposite direction for the centre piece. The neck has a lot of 'movement' in the wood.

Jon: okay, i'm glad we got that sorted out! :)

BTW, in your lefty Junior (as in all of our 3-piece necks) the grain does indeed run in opposite directions (which adds strength, stiffness, stability and SUSTAIN...)

Its got something to do with "focusing"  the vibrations...
In tests with our spectrum analyzer , we noticed that the sustain on a 3-piece was one full second longer, than the sustain on a 1-piece neck (on two otherwise identical guitars...)

We couldnt attribute it to anything else except the neck construction!

Found out today that we are WAITING on Mr. Shamray to bring us MAHOGANY for the body! Everything else is roughed out, but your guitar (among others) is ON HOLD till we get the mahogany we need.

I've been waiting to make a trip to the wood distributor with him since last wednesday (i want to go look at some ebony and 'other nice stuff' they have recently obtained) but he has been putting me off every day. Its a LONG DRIVE (about 4 hours!) so understandably its not easy for him to fit it into his schedule.

Rigt now I'm on standby for a trip out there tommorrow morning - actually he said he would call me tonight about that - so its somewhat doubtful now (since its after midnite). I will have to call HIM in the morning and see if he forgot about me...

That last pics says it all really, doesn't it? I really have to start thinking about what finish to have on it. I think I said cherry, but cherry it terrible for hiding flame...well it is on my gibson 335...maybe a natural finish, or see through tobacco burst? Input from anyone is very welcome. The power drill worries me ;) . I think the crafter must have several projects cos its moving quite slowly. But its all good.

I have always wanted to see the structural differences in a semi hollow body.  Top wood is going to be Killer.  Have you definitely figured out your finish color.  I really want sound bites from this guitar when your done.  The flame is very similar to my Hurricane.:)

Remember this is nothing like the way a 335 is built. 335s are laminated non solid maple. No mahogany except the neck. In fact the 336 has more in common with a chambered LP than a 335. I think the similar external characteristics confuse alot of people.
No firm choice of finish yet, I have a long long time to make the decision before they need to know.

USUALLY - the "wiring harness" is soldered together, and you tie fishing line to each of the pots and switches - fishing line that has PREVIOUSLY been threaded in the pot and switch holes - and pulled out again through a pickup cavity.

Then you FEED the whole harness into the guitar through the pickup holes, and 'FISH' the pots, jack, and switch out their holes with the fishing line, and then remove the line and attach them with the nuts.

but, IN THIS CASE, the wiring is simply done through a normal access panel in the back (a CS-336 innovation, which was also used for the ES-333, and many years earlier in the semi-hollow BluesHawk.. IIRC, even prior to that it was done in the LP signature hollowbody, too)
