Unfortunately, when we were getting ready to use it, we discovered that it was a little too thin for our needs (it had already been bookmatched in America). The new billet that is on its way is considerably thicker :)

Ebay, Michael saw them and asked if I liked them, of course I did.  Your Lp is really looking great.  The color is wonderful.  That's cool we have 1959 and 0059 for serials. :lol:;)

Well, those inlays are a great score.  I wasn't given an option on mine, and Michael knows I'm not fond of them -- apparently they were the only type that Michael could find .  I would prefer to change them, but I haven't been able to find a proper set!  I just know they're gonna bug me in the long run...
I wasn't given on option on the braz colour either as it was their last piece.  I REALLY hope it darkens up after the oiling.
(I am pretty happy with the rest of the guitar :))
BTW, your guitar is looking beautiful.  Great figure and grain in the maple!

I am sorry that you could get others.  Ben you can actually buy accordians with the pearloid type keys that are the right material.  In fact if you go on Ebay you will see guitar guys buying accordians and then cutting out the right shape and resell for 300-500 dollars, it's nuts.  They look right.  I want to build a three piece top LP with each piece unmatched to each other.  I don't have P90's so I think a 56 type would be cool.

Ben they were from Ebay.  An independent person was going to use them but decided to go another way, and he sold them to Michael.  After I agreed of course.  I said to you on your thread, an old accordian is the best and most correct.

its true, both those one-piece bodies were cut from the same board. And each of the one-piece necks came from the same tree.

In essence, 0059 and 1959 are fraternal twins, "separated at birth" :)

Sorry to interrupt, but that is, indeed, the darkest, most beutiful piece of mahogany, i´ve ever seen! Please tell me that´s not just the color-setting, but that that color is going to be used as the final... Man, i´m getting more and more astonished by shamray´s amazing work as the days passes on... Keep up the good work guys!

that will be the final color (its just going to get lacquer clear-coats over it).

We copied that particular shade right off of my old 1959 Melody maker, which has aged to that nice brown color...

Personally, I love that satin look of it. It gives it the "played" look. If I were u, I would keep it like that, but I'm sure u want to put some clear cloats on it so it looks gloosy.

Thanks for reminding me Hack, I really want a satin look as apposed very shiny.  But I guess when the clear coats go on we all can take a poll on which we like.  I'm sure Maxim can over buff it.  It's up to the Master Maxim.

Hey guys where did you find this picture, and who's guitar is it.  Pretty cool to see a similar looking guitar all put together.  Of course something like that would go for 250,00- 350,000 dollars.  Hopefully mine will be worth that in 50 years right Michael and A.ShamRay.

Dahhhh!!!!  Thank god Michael was on the ball and helped me on that one.  My parts are here, thank god.  Unfortunately my Crazyparts did not come in from Germany, so I had to order from RSGuitarWorks.  There aged parts are dead on.  I totally recommend.  I believe Michael likes them too.  Thank you Big Mike.

i have a question about that aging: how much would it cost extra
to have it aged? cause i really really really badly want a les paul,
custom build at shamray's ofcourse, but i also want it aged a bit.
how much would that be? (then i know how much longer i have
to save...)

We don't actually offer 'aging' as an option right now, though we will be offerig it in the near future.

(It will be a few weeks before we formulate a "relicing price schedule", because there are a lot of possibilities to consider...)

After we do Steve's guitar, i will have a better idea of all the costs involved. :)

Again who in the heck would spend 6000.00 to 9000.00 for a Murphy Les Paul.  First of all they are not 1/10th as good as any guitar built from ShamRay and the Guys.  Granted the resale Value of a Gibbo may be good but a playa is a playa.:lol:  I agree with your comment Lucian!!!!!

well..... they want to, but they can't.

i know at least how the legislation is on that part in the
netherlands, but not in russia (did i spell that right? legislation??)

as far as i know here, luthiers, like shamray but only in the
netherlands, create those guitars in customorders, and that the
bodyshape resembles a les paul is mere coincidence. thats why
they are allowed to be copied here. i think in russia its the same
deal as here. right?

The only country in the world where professional luthiers can't legally build an 'LP replica' is AMERICA. This is because Gibson has taken out American TRADEMARKS on the the body and headstock shape. But Gibson has not taken out any INTERNATIONAL trademarks yet - if they ever do, then we will stop producing LP replicas.

But I doubt that they will be buying them any time soon... Gibson has DOZENS of US trademarks registered, and a "Madrid Protocol" (international) trademark costs US$11,000 PER TRADEMARK to do a global registration that is valid in all countries.

@Lucian: Murphy is "Tom Murphy" - a guy in America who was so famous for his "guitar aging" artistry, that Gibson actually hired him to age some of their production guitars (so they could sell them for even more inflated prices than usual...) :)

i bet his "guitar aging" is him sitting outside on some some of desk chair with your guitar in the sun for 3 weeks while he reads a book, and the day before hes to ship it to you hell drag it up every stair in his house hitting the body, grab his spare belt and mash the back of it, pour some finish rotting solution on the back of the neck and quickly wipe it off and smile evilly about how much you just paid him to wreck your guitar....

on a completely unrelated note, i am now opening my own guitar aging business, please feel free to send me any guitars you would like to look older.

Just send your guitars to Michael and have his cat scratch it to give it that cracked look.  Tell the cat to paw at the lower part of the volume knobs and presto a Murphy aged LP.  Don't forget the CatNip on the back of the neck.  Also if you are refinishing older furniture, just spill some Zip Strip on certain areas and watch the Magic. :lol:  Great post Lucian.

Florian that's really funny:lol::lol:  If you own a real Burst or a 50's Goldtop LP like I do you will understand, why the aging is done.  It actually plays better.  Natural aging is much better to tone in a old wood guitar no doubt, but the look of a relic is just fun.  I have owned several new guitars and have some nice clean one's but the old relic one's feel so much better.  I don't think I have ever watched a full fifteen minutes of MTV in my life.  I was too busy working out for Football.

have anything extra, cause i dont need it (well,i do, but i dont
have cash now :-D ) and from day 1 i loved the les paul, and
after relicing the strat a bit, some scratches, some cracks, it
plays better, and sounds better. i think the wood now has more
breating space, so to say.

Workmanship is incredible. Finish and binding done to the T. The only complaint is the nut and the Bridge turned backwords. Was definitely worth the wait. Thank you Guys at ShamRay, Maxim and crew. Nut looks like it has a black spacer under it or a ink line around the base, also not cut deep enough. Very sharp edge, not cleaned up and is rough. Glue job not tight. In another words, if you put so much care into everything else why skimp on the nut. It's not Mammoth, just bone. The guitar is intonated perfect but the screw side is on the tailpiece side not forward toward the pickup. I am having a new nut made tomorrow by my Lutheir. He polishes them to a T. Don't get me wrong the guitar plays and sound great, but needs a few tweeks, like they all do.

I have a sentimental attachment to my '59 MM (single-cut, sunburst, 3/4-scale) because its virtually identical to the first Gibson that passed through my hands about 30 years ago.

But in addition to that, i love having it around the house to bang on, because its SO LOUD acoustically. I played it at my last gig, and the tone was excellent, real woody!

I did take the original pup and pickguard off, and put them away for safekeeping. Its got a Kinman HX-85 in it now - neccessary so i can actually record with it, since my living room is getting so crowded with my wife's drums that i have to sit in very close proximity to the computer when recording...

BTW, i can SEE the gold in your 52 now... probably i just saw it yellow before because "we see what we want to see..." :-)

I wonder if CS1959 will age and sound even better in 50 just like the Gibbo's I put Chapstick under the string guides on the nut as well as the saddles no sticking when tuning. The guitar plays better by the Day. I will eventually with put the Wooly Mammoth nut on.

Steve - I checked with our completing guy, and that IS a mammoth nut that we gave you!
We dont HAVE any other kind of bone in our shop... the only natural material we have for making nuts out of is two big (half a meter long) tusk-tips of 20,000 year old mammoth ivory.

All other nuts are either Graphtech or Delrin!

It's probably a more white colored piece than I am used to. Sounds great any way. I like the more traditional rounded off look. The way it plays I might not touch it.

Update, I have been playing the Hurricane every gig and has not let me down. Great feel to the neck and Woody tone. Now the Nitro is drying and shrinking it sounds better every week. Still reeks of the fumes of Nitro. Love the shit out of this guitar.
