Congratulations Gary, on the birth of your new Shamray Custom Shop guitar (serial number CS 1985)! We will post pictures of it's construction-in-progress from time to time here in this thread. http://www.leoquan.com/pictures/guitar/guitarchrome.jpg i didnt want the gibson style bridge as there used on to many guitars but at the same time they dont sell the PRS bridge freely so this was one of the closest available |

cheers for the link HACK but i think ill stick with the badass for now, im sure ill have time to change my mind if i do and im sure the micheal will be very helpfull about it and yeah i love that top, what a great find, just had a look at CS-0045 and that abalone looks great in the pic and im sure it looks better in life. also having a blue finish should compliment it nicely. as the top was actually under my budget i am also now having scrimshaw engraving on my bats to add greater detail to make this guitar as nice as possible |

just received an email from mike with an update, Mr Sushkov will be continuing the build of my guitar due to delays with Danilla's other build, after following recent PRS esque builds DAP-custom, KKustom and Custom orphan i must say i did find this very exiting news as the inlay work and finish on the guitars mentioned are outstanding and im sure Sushkov will not let me down with this one. also the finish has changed to a PRS privrate stock style to: http://www.wildwestguitars.com/prs/pages/mcc_ps_88638.htm but its going to be blue mist instead of purple. |

i cant wait for the first coat of stain of whatever is used to get the light gray/blue im after for the burst to see the figure at full form has mike shown you the pic i sent to him a while back showing the colour im after? and if pissible i still want natural on the back aslong as it looks good againt the black edge of the burst |

well, well well... i was looking at this guitar today, and the phrase "staggeringly, mind-numbingly beautiful" came to mind! its only part-way through the top-dyeing, but looking, um... I too am a fan of Paul Allanders PRS and sometime in the future im thinking of having a PRS made from shamray with those inlays, except its going to be 7 string and different headstock, not sure on colour, but i got too many ideas. lol. Congrats all the same. Those bat inlays totally amazed me into rethinking this idea. | |

yot got me thinking then but looking at the past ones [DAP Orphan and KKustom they dont rout the pickups until they start applying the vanish it looks, theres still more coats to be added so im hoping that once the bats are all in place they will rout out then, Sushkov will be the man to ask | |

Didn't any body notice the tiger face in the middle of the figure. I would hate to lose that after routing. Unbelieveable, I thought I was seeing things. I not a fan of PRS guitars, but after seeing ShamRay - Client guitars, damb I will think differently. In lays to die for. | |

i think emg's are a shame in this gorgeous guitar...i'd prefer nickel/chrome plated paf's with zebra bobbins or whatever... but with emg's it will look just brutal!! the artwork is also awesome. |

yeah, danila started making this guitar but due to an injury and hold-up on his other projects this got passed to sushkov which im really glad about as i was told sushkov is the PRS master and one of the best crafters at shamray....... and i think it really shows i love what hes done with my guitar...... i just wish the finishing process was sooner, and i had it in my arms | |

no, it hasnt even been inspected yet! I am still waiting for them to put the shop back together (its being removated) and unpack everything from the trade show last week. i'm hoping to do inspection and playtesting early next week |

I found out today that they didnt like the way that BadAss bridge sits on normal posts (it has a rather rakish TILT) - so they machined new custom posts for it. They are getting chrome plated now, but as soon as they are done, your guitar will ready for assembly ( MACHINE HEADS ARRIVED TODAY!)

I'm optimistic it will be ready for a final inspection on Friday. THEORETICALLY it could go out as soon as Saturday, if its completed tommorrow. But if CS-0076 actually shipped out today (as Shamray said it would) then we will have to wait until Tuesday or Wednesday. As soon as the custom bridge studs are back in the shop, then your guitar gets bumped BACK UP to the top of the shipping queue. So its definitely going to be the first guitar shipped out next week! |

cheers Michael, the great news i was hoping for, no disrespect to Jason but i wouldnt mind if CS-0076 didnt get shipped but at the same time im sure Jason thinks different either way it looks like i will have my guitar before christmas which was my main concern and im interested to see and feel the complete final item |

ahh well.... i hope jason enjoys 0076 and assuming its ready im really looking forward to hearing how the final playtest goes on friday... can you/sushkov still post videos of the playtests as you have done in the past?? |

so then, i got my guitar managed to snap the high E on inital tuning so i thought it was easier to restring the whole guitar (im used to a low pro so its a hell of a lot easier), ive also lowerd the control pots and replaced the chrome dome controls with the speed knobs supplied, other then that it sounds amasing, plays amasing - although it may take a little bit of getting used to as after playing the same guitar for over a year it is a bit weird... and more then anything it looks amasing ive been waiting since january and now its turned up i now know all the waiting was not in vain. anyway onto the good part: pics http://photobucket.com/albums/v435/death26row/ even though i think these pics look nice and i thought my previous pics looked good they just dont do the guitar as much justice as it deserves the abalone and quilt top look so much nicer when you see it in the flesh (well wood) |

soo then, ive had the guitar over a week and ive had the chance to see the good and the bad of it... so i thought i should write a kinda review.... should be on harmony central soon.... ENJOY: Price Paid 1700GBP / about $3000 Features: first off its my 2005 Shamray custom shop CS-1985 (my year of bith) Tanswell custom Specs: Carved instrument grade quilt maple top Flame Mahogany Back Mahogany thru neck construction 24 fret 25.5 in scale length Ebony fretboard abalone custom bat inlay, My name under 24th Fret rosewood headstock overlay rosewood truss rod cover Leo Quan badass bridge with graphite bridge Locking Tuners Graphite nut speed Knobs EMG 85N/81B Locking Tuners the only reason i gave this a 9 and not a 10 is if i was to get the guitar made again i would get an 89 instead of the 85 just for that extra little versatility the problem is it should be a 10 as if i wanted the 89 at the begining of the build i would of got it! (and i forgot strap buttons) 9/10 Sound: well.... i thought i had great tone with my ibanez there is a lot of descussion on wether EMGs remove the tone of the wood, and now ive compared this to my ibanez (basswood) and i can say its not even a subtle difference if u know anything about guitar tone.... all i can say is it has made me love my ENGL powerball even more then i did.... and music style, metal really (COB, COF Rammstein SOAD etc...)/80's punk (the damned) and the cleans on this (yes even with EMGs) really shine aswell. the powerball has a built in noisegate but i dont think it needs it, the controlls are great not even a slight bang or crackle or pop.... its just awesome although for a guitar i do think this is very variable to the amp you use, as through a crap amp even this guitar would sound crap. i nearly gave this a 9 as i dont think anything is really a perfect 10 but i couldnt pick fault with it.... any channel, any volume, unpluggled i cant not love the sound this guitar produces.... 10 it is 10/10 Action, Fit & Finish: i have not had to adjust the action or anything since getting it, i did change the strings as soon as i got it as i snapped the high e on initial tuning as i had my tuner set wrong..... my fault. there is the usual things that i actually like more then anything which is very slight imperfection like very a slight paint splash on the binding and the fact you can tell the logo on the back is hand drawn (not in a bad way) the bats look amasing and i cant pick fault with any of these they came out 10x better then what i initially pictured the guitar to be. only minor problem is ive had to trim the rotary selector as it was sent with the wrong knobs on (although correct ones supplied) the pickup selector stalk was too long so i trimmed it.... and also i needed to lower the volume and tone aswell again a 9 as i struggle to give anything a 10, all i can really say why its a 9 is the badass bridge is weird to palm mute after playing the same guitar for over a year its quite a change. 9/10 Reliability/Durability: i dont play in a band, never have done and have no plans to, i play for fun more then anything... so i dont really know the beating a live guitar takes.... but you can tell its well built and i think it will withstand live playing. i spec'd the guitar with high quality hardware and it shows, tuning stability is great, sound is great and allround feel is great. the strapbuttons feel solid but i will still be getting strapbuttons for that extra bit of security.... even for home playing. a 10 this time.... it comes with a LIFETIME woodwork guarentee....... what more do you want???? 10/10 Customer Support: this is a funny one, as i know a few of the shamray reviews state.... this comes down to what seems one man vs his company. Michael Walker 10/10: if all people worked this hard to make sure the clients were happy there would be no need for this section as everywhere would be a 10.... every e-mail i sent i had a reply within 24 hours any day of the week. he deals with any problems and knows his stuff if you have any querys. Mr shamray himself 6/10: although the wait is over this is the only bitter taste left in my mouth over the whole process, this company has built me the best guitar i have ever played/seen BUT it didnt come without a 11 1/2 month wait..... there was a few unavoidable delays but in the end it came down to waiting as he never got round to ordering the case so i had to wait a few extra weeks. overall ive given a 9 again as other then the delay every problem was sorted out very calmly and promptly by Mr Walker. 9/10 Overall: ive been playing about 2 years now and although this is not long i have played many guitars [PRS customs 24, Gibson LP etc...]and none come close to this in quality or playability. i play it direct into an ENGL Powerball which is an amasing metal amp and this guitar goes perfectly with it. if i could change any one thing about it all it would be is the 85 to an 89 for the added single coil but thats it. in the fictional world where if this was stolen i could afford another. rarther then get a replacement i would get 2 mid priced shamrays, just a personal thing as if it was a direct copy i would miss the original even more and pick faults with the second as to why its not as good as the original. overall 10/10.... after all the wait and money - it was worth it in the end 10/10 |
