Congratulations Walter, on the birth of your new Shamray Custom Shop guitar (serial number CS 0056)!

We will post pictures of it's construction-in-progress from time to time here in this thread.

For the curious, here are the specs on CS 0056:

Detailed specification of Guitar: CS-0056 ‘ICEFLY”

Basic Design of Guitar: Complex body shape, bolt-on neck, Sunken 3way switch, The pots and switches in a carved cavity

Neck : Warmoth neck, 13º, (client will supply), headstock to be finished sunburst with single-layer cream binding

Nut: Client will supply Earvana nut

Truss rod cover: Mat ch ing the headstock (painted) – painted Shamray logo

Logo: block inlay 12th fret:engraved IceFly, Inscription painted between bridge and tailpiece (turntablz font for both)

Body wood: &nb sp; ;Korina

Body binding: 1- layer cream on top

Output jack mounting: 45º angle (see drawing)

Finish: Custom Cherry Bursteye Design - on top only - back and sides cherry tinted lacquer

I have been advised today that your PARTS HAVE ARRIVED.

Unfortunately, they are STUCK IN CUSTOMS and we have to pay $100 to get them out :sweat:

You made the tragic mistake of valueing the package at FOUR HUNDRED EUROS... so now we have to pay DUTY on it! (our customs exemption is only 10,000 rubles, or about US$300)

I thought I did a good job packaging the neck, but apperently I didn't, something somewhere went wrong during shipment.

Hmm... thats a little SETBACK... you never went ahead and sent me a "final" artwork for your guitar's body, so we had assumed you wanted a 'normal' IceMan shape.

So you really wanted a smoothed version of that rough sketch?? (double cutaway)?

Thats going to take me a couple of hours in the CAD program... If you have a better drawing, please send it along right away!

Ahhh. i just got off the phone with Shamray, and he tells me those were the wrong pics he posted (for a domestic 'Iceman' order!) . I can see now that is mahogany anyway... yours will be Korina. So (luckily, i suppose) your guitar's body hasnt been started yet... I will look into it this afternoon!

Walter already had the neck, which he bought for another project... this project was for us to take that neck, and "build a guitar around it..."

We normally don't do that kind of work, but i thought his body design was interesting enough to warrant an exception

this bodyshape is indeed very unique, it's the blend of an (IMO)
ugly parker and an (IMO) ugly ice-thingy ibanez. and the blend
of those 2 ended up as a rather nice and goodlooking guitar!

Ik zat te twijfelen om zoveel schakelaars in te laten bouwen, waarschijnlijk gebruik ik maar enkele standen, maarr... 'k heb zo wel de keuze.
Nog meer knoppies erbij lijkt me iets teveel v.h. goede, het voegt ook weinig toe denk ik.

nee. 3 knopjes extra. hij heeft PER HUM apart te schakelen: in/
uit fase hum/single en serie/parallel. 3 "schakelblokken" voor 2
hums, maar 6 knoppen. onder de tone+volumeknoppen had ie
pushpull pots. en onder de slagplaat 2 drukknopjes voor het in/
uit fase. op mijn LP die ik wil hebben moet dat dus ook komen.
met de compound radius toets die hij ook had

maar dit is niet de Number 1, maar de Number 2, die qua
uiterlijk gelijk was aan de Number 1. en idd, veel gebruiken zal
ik t niet doen, maar tis wel MEGAvet om te hebben

To be honest when the specs of this guitar were first put on this page i was like mmmmm ok ....

the three mini-switches are simple - according to the schematic you gave me:

1) series/parallel/single for NECK PICKUP
2) both pickups in series/both pickups parallel (controls 'both pickups' toggle position only, no effect in the other positions )
3) series/parallel/single for BRIDGE PICKUP

thats the theory, anyway... They have to double-check the diagram you gave us on monday, and make sure its "for-real", because when i tested it today, that 'middle' mini-toggle wasnt working correctly. (despite the fact its apparently wired exactly according to your diagram...)

In any event - the guitar sounds REAL NICE - very clear and bright. Yer gonna ba a "HAPPY CAMPER", I am sure...

If that schematic really isnt viable, (not uncommon with schematics published on the web!) then we could wire that mini-toggle as a phase-switch instead...

id wait for confimation of michael - but yours should be next to ship any day now (assuming the switch is sorted) as shamray replied to 0060 saying its on its way and i know that was infront of mine, then its yours and then its mine

STATUS UPDATE: I am told the switch problem was solved in my absence, so i will be giving the guitar its FINAL INSPECTION tommorrow.

No news on a shipping date - apparently we are still waiting for "the case guy" to bring us the (custom-made) case. Stepanov was hinting today that he thinks we could be waiting for the case another TWO WEEKS - i hope to get more information on that tommorrow...

Shamray says 'the case guy' is SUPPOSED to be bringing your case today. I hope that this will be the case - and that CS-0056 going to be ready for it's final inspection tommorrow...

!!THE ICEFLY HAS ARRIVED!! (15.5 months after this thread started)

I tested it briefly last night, I like it!
The sound is quite clear, as expected with white Korina.
Of total of 21 switching possibilities, I found that there are 6 distinct different tones possible.
Talking about switches, Michael, how was the problem with the switch schematics solved? The problem was solved during your absence. I'm curious if the scheme was changed.

If I will find some time in the future I will do some sound recording and post the clips.

the schematic you gave us was "bogus", in that when we wired it as shown, the center mini-toggle (series/parallel switch) didn't function properly. (it was acting as a MUTE SWITCH instead!)

So we changed the middle mini-toggle to a PHASE SWITCH, so that at least the middle switch could do something useful :-)

The website has been updated. The Icefly is still my no1 guitar, but I am not fully comfortable with the TOM bridge, it takes a while to get used to it. Nonetheless a great guitar!
