Congratulations Simon, on the birth of your new Shamray Custom Shop instrument (serial number CS 0024)!
We will post pictures of it's construction-in-progress from time to time here in this thread.
Since the shop is currently at CAPACITY, it may be 6 or 8 weeks until a crafter is free to begin construction of your bass.
For the curious, here are the specs on CS 0024:
Detailed specification of Bass: CS-0024 ‘BASS-IN-FLAMES’
Bolt- neck “WARLOCK” style SIX-STRING BASS, 34.0 INCH Scale Length
Finish color on top & headstock is “Flames graphic”on black lacquer
Body & neck: Mahogany body. 3-piece Ash neck, Double truss rods.
’Warlock’ headstock.shape with black facing, flames graphic & hand-painted ‘Simon H.’ logo.
(Shamray Custom Shop logo on back of headstock.)
Fretboard: EBONY - no fret markers except pearl Pentagram @ 12th fret.
White pearl side dot markers. 24 medium-jumbo frets. 10 inch radius.
Hardware: Black chrome 6-string bridge, black chrome Gotoh machine heads. Black chrome STRAPLOCKS. Black toggle switch tip, jack direct mounted (side of body), no pickguard.
Electronics: Volume (pull to bypass active EQ), Treble, Bass, Mid w/sweep, Pickup blend for middle position, 3-way toggle switch (USA). NO toggle switch washer. 100% cavity shielding. Active EQ has 9V battery box. (easy access, on back next to control cavity cover)
Knobs: 5 black knobs
Pickups : 2 Chernishev custom humbuckers, ebony covers.
Case: molded flight case.
Strings:
roundwound, 032-130 tuned B-E-A-D-G-CSpecial: Bone nut
Notes: Custom neck profile “duplicate customer’s Yamaha”.

Najaaaa, er hätte im spätestens im Mai fertig werden sollen. Jetzt musste er 1 Monat warten, bis sie anfangen, 1 Monat, weil er die Airbrusherin einen Rechtschreibfehler gemacht hatte, seit einem Monat sollte der Typ den Bass fertig machen, nichts passiert.
Im Jänner wurde eine Bauzeit von 3-4 Monaten versprochen, die sind jetzt schon über 100% drüber und es geht nichts weiter...
DAS würde ich nicht als Ungeduld hinstellen, das ist eine Frechheit!

Verdammt es gibt doch immer wieder Menschen die meinen wichtig zu sein. Ich warte seit 8 Monaten-das ist doppelt so lange wie versprochen und immer noch kein Ende in Sicht. Zur Zeit schaut das ganze Geschäft nach reiner Abzocke aus. Keine Antwort auf mehrere Mails und immer wieder neue "Ausreden". Es wäre wohl wirklich besser gewesen gleich zu einer anderen Firma zu gehen.
Naja im Nachhinein ist man immer schlauer und ich weis bestimmt dass ich den selben Fehler nicht wieder machen werde.

vielleicht solltest du mal bedenken was in Russland, speziell Moskau grad abgeht, oder gibts bei euch keine Nachrichten? In nem andren Thread heisst es das Sie aufgrund der terroristischen Anschläge nur noch 2 Gitarren pro Woche verschicken dürfen, andererseits wäre ich auch sauer wenn ich keine Antworten auf eMails bekommen würde. Wenn du dich mal in den andren Custom Threads informiert hättest, wüsstest du dass Verzögerungen immer wieder auftreten, schließlich werden die Gitarren nicht von einer CNC Mühle gefräst

Haben die Terroranschläge irgendetwas damit zu tun dass sie an dem Bass weiterarbeiten können? wohl kaum, das betrifft den Versand und dazu ist er noch lange nicht bereit.
Ach soso, 4 Monate Verzögerung sind ja Normalfall klar. Und das bedeutet nicht dass es 4 Monate länger gedauert hat, sondern dass in diesen weiteren 4 Monaten NICHTS passiert ist. Das gibt mir sehr zu Denken und das hat auch nix damit zu tun dass die keine cnc maschinen verwenden.

I am certain that you will be delighted with the final product, and i can only apologize profusely for the 'endless' delays.
Its unfortunate, but my build time estimates were not very fine-tuned a few months ago (due to a lack of information, they didnt take into account some of the realities of russian work schedules) The original build time quote was "accurate" based on the information i was given at the time, and of course it was based on an optimistic view of a 'smooth build'!
HOWEVER, we have since determined that 'real world' build time is running about 22 weeks on average, and currently i quote everyone an estimate of 24-26 weeks just to be on the safe side.
But its true that disaster after disaster after disaster have conspired to make the construction of this bass "time and again" critically overlap the summer holidays of both the crafter and the artists, (adding literally months of inactivity, as one phase cannot be proceeded to until its preliminary phase is completed) and the fact it now has had to go in for a total repaint (which should be completed tommorrow!) has made matters even worse. Guitar building is more of an art than a science, it can either go extremely smoothly, or impossibly slow - and this particular workbench has been CURSED, I'm sorry to say!
Incidentally, try living through a month of terrorist attacks around your city and you will see the negative impact they have on EVERYONE'S productivity... it makes a bad situation even worse

at last - the new artwork is done, and SEALED with a clearcoat! It wont be long now... In other news, i am told today that the 12th fret inlay artwork is proceeding as requested

The guys at Austria EMS really messed up... after keeping Simon's bass in their warehouse there for a month, somehow they accidentally sent it BACK TO US. Simon's name and address and phone number were CORRECT on the waybill (and plastered all over the package as well!)
The official reason for it being returned was at the bottom of the list: "Other" (with no reason filled in the space provided)
I am not sure what those guys in Austria are smoking, its got to be some pretty BADASS weed.
We will re-pack it and ship out again this week!

unfortunate that you have to wait this long, that is just a pain in
the ass, but indeed, keep in mind that in other customshops,
one has to wait sometimes even more than a year!
my " local" luthier has a waitinglist of more than 1.5 years, and
another one, just around my corner has a waiting list of
SEVEN!!!!!! years, so i think, waiting just over a year for an
instrument is not something out of the ordinary. and I have to
agree with mr. Walker; guitarbuilding is an art, not a science. if it
were, computerbuild guitars would be THE best available. and
guess what: it is not.
besides, this whole thing reminds me of this quote: how can one
know the sweet without the sour? i think you will like your bass a
hell of a lot more, when it is finally there.

"a hell of a lot" is the key phrase, i think.. actually the general concensus in our shop is that this bass is actually CURSED (due to its pentagram fretboard inlay)..
Due to a very strange coincidence in timing in illnesses and vacations on our staff, crafters schedules got skewed and the original artwork shrivelled up in the days when it was left unattended without a lacquer clearcoat. later, we had big delays when the parts and electronics for this bass (which were shown in our parts reserve computer inventory) could not be located in the warehouse when it was time to install them.
Strangest of all, we had a delay of several months because the crafter who was originally supposed to make the pentgram inlay mysteriously fell ill, and then none of our other crafters wanted to do it ( for religious reasons, apparently!)
those are just a few examples i can think of off-hand ( the mysterious shipping problem being the latest...)
