Congratulations Tim, on the birth of your new Shamray Custom Shop guitar (serial number CS 0015)! We will post pictures of it's construction-in-progress from time to time here in this thread For the curious, here are the specs on CS 0015: Detailed specification of Guitar: CS-0015 “BUTTERSCOTCH-BURST” Gibson Les Paul Standard “1959 Burst” dimensions - Butterscotch top finish as per R9 #911030(Body Back, Side Of Body, Back of Neck & Headstock to be usual LP standard red pore filler / clear lacquer.) Body & neck: Lightweight African mahogany. Neck to have “1960 slim taper” profile. Long neck tenon.Top wood: Instrument-grade flame maple top (flame maple billet BZSW2) Fretboard: rosewood with “vintage” perloid trapezoid inlays, regular plastic side dots Binding: cream binding- single layer on fretboard, single -layer on front of body. Hardware: chrome gotoh tune-o-matic bridge & tailpiece, chrome gotoh ‘vintage Kluson tulip’ machine heads. Chrome strap buttons. Cream plastic pickup rings, cream rectangular jackplate, cream toggle washer, black plastic control cavity covers, and cream "LP" pickguard. Electronics: usual LP standard wiring; toggle switch, 2 volume, 2 tone. Partsland large pots, Dimarzio toggle, Partsland jack, Oil-in-paper caps, 100% cavity shielding. Knobs: 4 "gibson hat knobs" (plastic, gold color) Pickups : Chernichev custom wound replica PAF with “burstbucker 2&3 winding”, chrome covers.Case: molded plastic flight case, SKB-56. I show these pics to my pals here in the States, the same comments keep coming up. The most impresive thing, besides the top itself, is the pile of shavings and the hand plane next to it. Someone's (Pavel's?) hand is making that top, not a CNC mill. That's what's awesome about this project. |

It's really looking kick-ass. I can't believe that in a couple of weeks I'll be holding it in my hands!! Unreal finish, color from the photos looks amazing, I keep saying that in our emails but it's really something to see. Can't wait to see it with all the hardware and the headstock done, too!! | |

Our scale is broken, so we dont know the weight exactly. Subjectively, it feels fairly light. We've been playing it through the shop amps, a fender and some other one (i forget the name of it, red devil or something). In a perfect world, i'd get a chance to take it home and give it the final playtest through a Marshall JCM-800 and MesaBoogie. But i dont think we have the SKB case for it yet, so its not leaving the shop! Everything here is a mass of confusion - thanks to the recent wave of terrorism, businesses (and most other aspects of peoples lives) have been disrupted badly. Last week Shamray's "new engine" blew up in his Lada, and thanks to all the "days of mourning" he is apparently having trouble getting a replacement lined up for it. That will have an impact on our shipping schedule - thanks to Draconian changes at Russian Customs (they now have to xray EVERYTHING that goes anywhere by courier to make sure its not terrorists bombs!) we have been restricted to shipping only 2 guitars a week, and thanks in part to Shamray's transport woes we missed the shipment on the two guitars that were supposed to go out LAST week. According to my notes from 2 weeks ago, yours was 6th in line in the shipping schedule then. So i guess we shall be able to ship it out the week of sept 20-24, unless there is a delay in completion of one of the guitars that is listed ahead of it, in that case it might be bumped up to the week of sept 13-17. I hope to have an updated shipping schedule by the end of THIS week.... |
