update: Yes, Shamray has STILL not purchased the one remaining pickup, despite the fact the dealer had it in stock over a month ago, and he was given the cash to buy it weeks earlier. My guess: Shamray embezelled your pickup money and spent it on beer Stepanov says "Shamray is supposed to bring the pickup TODAY" (we shall see...) |

Going by 'due date' - yours is currently on the TOP of the list, with 0067 and 0084 very close behind. Neither of them are 100% ready to ship yet either, so its a bit of a race... whichever is ready first will be the next to ship out!

STATUS REPORT: Its still in line for completing, and I am unhappy to report that there has been absolutely no progress on ANYTHING in the completing room since LAST friday. All the same guitars are sitting there in exactly the same position, and nothing has changed except an extra layer of shop dust! Granted, our shop manager Stepanov has been at home deathly ill for the past week - but you would have thought that maybe Mr. Shamray would have stepped up and covered for him! Sadly, it appears that this was NOT the case. All we await for YOUR GUITAR are the strap buttons and its single chrome knob. Stepanov told me he ordered them from Shamray LAST WEEK. I called it to Shamray's attention today, but he pleads ignorance. So, there is no possibility that your guitar will be completed before TUESDAY. All because the alleged 'management' neglected to buy all the parts six months ago, like they were supposed to. (If there is a worse-managed guitar shop ANYWHERE on the planet, I'd like to know about it...) |

Its VERY sad! I showed it to Shamray today - i pointed out your guitar (covered in its weeks-old layer of shop dust) and told him... Look: this guitar has been sitting here for WEEKS, and its waiting for nothing but strap buttons, and one black metal knob!! I told him in no uncertain terms that 'this sort of stuff' simply CANNOT keep happening in the future. We will see what he plans to do about it on MONDAY... |

Its not "the system".. its the total LACK of the system! For the past THREE YEARS, I have been giving Shamray consulting, advice, business rules, and ALL the management tools he needs to make this shop run "like clockwork". He just outright refuses to implement ANYTHING i have recommended. Its "not rocket science" - and i have laid this out time and time again! Mr.Shamray simply needs to do the following: 1) BUY A FILING CABINET, and USE IT!! 2) purchase ALL THE PARTS as soon as i give him the order. ALL OF THEM! And do some follow up at regular intervals, to make sure that they are all present and accounted for - well in advance of completing (see #3 "timeline" below) 3) Make a WORK-FLOW TIMELINE, with a few simple "Milestones" to track for each order. And yes - spend the whole TWO MINUTES per day, per guitar - to simply CHECK the friggin timeline, and make sure that things are on track! 4) Implement ISO.9002-style Quality Control protocols!!!! In our case, its a VERY SIMPLE two or three "stop checks" along the build process, points where the crafter needs to go to the manager - and have him double-check and CONFIRM the measurements, and "sign off". Then the work (cutting wood, etc) may CONTINUE to the next quality 'stop check'. *** Its NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, Mr.Shamray!! This one simple management tool alone will prevent 99% of all the possible screw-ups. (such as the disasters that happened in the past year to CS-0059, CS-1976, and CS-0057/CS-0063...) And how many times have i advised, recommended, even pleaded with you to implement it? Ten times? TWENTY times? 5) make COMPLETEING OF EXPORT GUITARS "THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY". (we can all relate to that, can't we?) I get practically HOMICIDAL when i come in the shop and see "my" orders languishing around collecting dust - while the completing guy is busy working on domestic repair job after domestic repair job. (because they provide Mr. Shamray's repair department with a quick buck!) Its really looking to me like Mr. Shamray doesnt VALUE his international clients (many of which have completely PAID FOR their guitars IN ADVANCE, IN FULL - by the time they are ready for completing...) 6) make SHIPPING of Export guitars the OTHER NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. When they are ready to ship - SHIP THEM! NOW!!!!!! Dont be such a LAZY USELESS PATHETIC IRRESPONSIBLE SCOUNDREL - GET IT TOGETHER and DO THE RIGHT THING!!!! (DO you CARE about our clients, or NOT?????!!!!! Ship 'em their damn guitars already!!!!) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++ As it happens, my personal three year 'consulting agreement' with Mr. Shamray EXPIRES at midnight tonight. I will be sitting down with Mr. Shamray on MONDAY. If Mr. Shamray doesnt agree to IMMEDIATELY IMPLEMENT points #1 through #6 above, and furthermore, if he cannot give me some kind of REAL ASSURANCES that he will will follow through on his promises (because my nick-name for him - based on past experiences - is "the king of broken promises")... Then, I will NOT be renewing it. Current customers: no need to panic! Because I believe that personal integrity is an IMPORTANT VALUE, and I actually CARE about all of you nice people who have ordered guitars from us - I WILL PERSONALLY keep an eye on all the current orders - and the couple of new ones that are already written up (there are two or three new orders just pending payment next week) - and I WILL personally make sure they get built RIGHT, and personally inspect each and every one of them! But once they have all been shipped out, then that will be the END of my association with 'The Shamray Shop'. If Mr. Shamray just wants to keep on with his same old style of underperforming horribly as a manager, and just plain NEGLECTING all of the excellent customers who put their faith in him - then I WON'T be writing up any NEW orders. Life is just TOO SHORT for me to go on keep on working with Shamray and his "NON-SYSTEM". Its just WAY TOO FRUSTRATING! This place has the potential to be "The Best Custom Shop In The WORLD". But ONLY if the man in CHARGE is actually willing to MANAGE IT PROPERLY! (No-one can do it FOR him, if he's not willing) The past couple of months I have been lobbying hard to convince Mr. Shamray to SELL the shop to somebody who "ACTUALLY GIVES A DAMN" - and would manage it in the way that our clients deserve! There are now three different interested parties, but Shamray has thus far been unwilling to sell... Maybe that will change next week? Or maybe Shamray really does care enough about 'the shop' to actually heed my instructions, and improve his management performance 1000%? It would be a shame if this place just 'fades away'... especially disappointing for me, since i have personally devoted three years of my life to building up a world-class international custom shop business out of "thin air" for Mr. Shamray. |

You'd wish this was all an april fools joke, but of course we all know it's not. In the event you'll read this, mr Shamray: There's no way in hell I'll ever order a guitar from your shop again if Michael's not there, and I can garantie that goes for 99% of all the other foreign customers. It's obvious you don't really care that much about the reputation of the shop or about us customers, or have any real pride in your work, so I can only assume your're really only in it for the money. Well, you're certainly not going to be making more of that in the future without international orders, so do us all a favour, yourself included: SELL THE SHOP TO SOMEONE WHO DOES CARE. It's that simple. Or perhaps you'll realise that you do care enough to get things together, but honestly, there's not much chance of that, now is there?... |

don't worry about that hijacking as long as it gets read! : ) Whatever it takes to get this shop going strong...I would suggest Shamray to EVERYONE if some of these rather simple things would be put in place. I was in the process of getting my cousins Shamray order in shape when I decided that I wouldn't advise my cousin to go this route until things have shaped up a bit. That being said, good luck Michael and know that everyone on here is behind you. Hmm, maybe a Walker custom guitars shop? Steal some of the crafters and show Shamray how to run a guitar shop.

Michael, as you know, I was also wanting a Shamray-built LP. The one single guitar, the Sadler burst, that I held in my hands was enough to make me want one. Badly. If this doesn't get thier asses in gear, it's not gunna happen. If you plan on going back to Canada, there'll be a position here for you when I'm ready to take on regular assistance. I have been supervising 4 Shamray Custom projects. Got Marcus Ericsson to take the step to build a custom bass. Michael has always been great help and definately a must for a foreign customer. I know I have mailed a couple of "hard" mails to him about a lot of issues that has come up (always something). Those mails have never been aimed at Michael himself though but adressed to the "shopowner". Have mailed to Alexandr too, but he doesn´t answer properly or just forward the mails to Michael. When I ordered my first guitar I had a hard time to get my ideas of my guitar understood. (Michael wasn´t helping Shamray then). I mailed Michael and asked him to help me to get what I want and he was willing to look after the project. So, thanks to Michael my MRW-001 was possible. With all problems with almost every project here at Shamray, I would say that I am surprised that Michael had been on the ship that long. "The Captain is the last man leaving a sinking ship" So mr.Alexandr Shamray, sharpen your ears and really start listen to what Michael has to say to you on monday. Afterall, Shamray Custom Shop builds some of the best guitars in the world I would say. Don´t let it end like this. |

GOOD news... Mr. Shamray has agreed to ALL of my demands, and has restructured his other business so that he will stay in the guitar shop all day, every day - to manage things PROPERLY. Just to keep him honest, I am writing up a new contract right now that DIRECTLY links his profit on each guitar - to his performance as a manager. (It will be good incentive for him...) ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ just to steer this thread back on track a little: the strap buttons and knob were FINALLY located today, and CS-0727 will be packed and shipped very soon. Its number ONE on the shipping list - estimated shipping date: TOMMORROW (April 4th) |
