Congratulations Pete, on the birth of your new Shamray Custom Shop guitar (serial number CS 0054)!
We will post pictures of it's construction-in-progress from time to time here in this thread.

For the curious, here are the specs on CS 0054:

Detailed specification of Guitar: CS-0054 ‘PETE’S MARTINO”

 

Long tenon set neck “PatMartino” style, carved top with 22 frets. Inlaid pearl “Holly” headstock logo.
Top color: “burst finish”, COLOR TO BE DARKBURST – EXACTLY LIKE Creation LP-1
Sides, back, neck, & back of headstock to be transparent lacquer over “red pore filler”.

 

Body: Fully chambered Mahogany body with carved AAA maple top. 2 F-holes

Neck: maple with “1959” rounded neck profile. Petrified mammoth ivory nut.
Fretboard: Rosewood with ES-137 style fret markers  - bronze side dot markers.  22 ‘med-jumbo’ frets. 12”radius.

Binding: 3-layer cream around top of body, single layer cream around fretboard and headstock.

Hardware: Chrome T-O-M bridge & tailpiece, Chrome Sperzel locking machines, Chrome strap-locks. black pickup rings, black toggle switch tip, chrome rectangular jackplate, black ‘bell’ TRC. Black LP pickguard.

Electronics: 3-way toggle switch (USA), two volume, two tone. 100% cavity shielding. 500K pots (USA).
Knobs: 4 gold ‘gibson hat’ knobs

Pickups: Chernishev PAF-D.59 (neck) & D.SH4 (bridge) with chrome covers

Case:    molded flight case.

Strings: Ernie Ball  .011-.049

Notes: “straight string pull headstock” , Customer will provide Headstock logo artwork, Shamray Custom Shop logo on back of headstock.

ROSEWOOD for fretboard needs to be selected for ‘tightest grain” ( smoothest feel)

Maple neck should be dyed to match back of body color as closely as possible! ('red pore filler')

 HI Michael,

This is all very exciting.  A couple of quick notes.  I think I had mentioned to change the strings to 11s.  ALso, I'm thinking of going with a "standard" Shamray logo instead (after all, what would my heirs want with a guitar that sayss "Holly".  :)    Could you post (or point me to) some examples.

 We have a bunch of different "shamray logos" ... have a look in these threads:

CS-0009 is a recent 'modern one'  - and personally i like the one on CS-0001 a lot. CS-0002 has the "traditional" Shamray logo (as does CS-0026, and CS-0014 has a variation). CS-0013 (also CS-0025 and many others) use a popular script style. CS-0015 opted to have Shamray in Cyrillic!

Really, we can do the Shamray logo in any font YOU LIKE.. as long as it says "Shamray" or "Shamray Custom Shop" thats all that matters really... there are several more interpolations in the russian photo galleries ( http://www.shamray.ru/gallery03/show.pl )

 Hi Michael,

Just checking in on the build status of my axe (I know you are backed up).  Attached is a pic of a logo I like (without the "Trademark" symbol).  Can't find a pic of CS-0001 with the headstock visisble as you suggested.  Can you post one?

Also, how thick is the "59" rounded neck?  I don't like the slim taper (60s) necks but I don't like telephone poles either.  Lastly, I'm leaning back to 10s for strings - fickle americans!

 here is CS-0001 headstock.

Picture is a little out of focus, but you get the idea! ( the camera focused on the mirror reflection of the trees, because the lacquer is so shiney)

"59" neck is rounder and fatter than a '1960 slim taper", but nowhere near as fat as the 57 or 54 "baseball bat" neck profile. A trip to any gibson dealer that stocks the "historic re-issue" series will show you how they feel. Do you already have a particular guitar you LOVE the feel of? I can send you instructions on how to get us the right measurements so we can clone the neck profile...

 Hi Michael,

Yeah, I like the CS-0001 logo.  In terms of necks - I have a G&L Commanche that I love the neck.  Sounds like the 59 neck is what I'm looking for.  How do you measure?

SO when do you guys break ground?

I still dont have the updated crafter schedule, so i cant say even approximately who is going to do it, or when.

Perhaps Shamray will give it to me tommorrow ( i nag him about it daily...:fou:)

 I saw him putting some finishing touches on 0030 today (dressing the fret ends a bit) , and it looks like 0047 has maybe a week left to go.. so it should "not be long" before yours gets underway!
