Spencer Seim's SF3 Guitar
I started this guitar after I got a good deal on the wood. I got pretty far along, almost completely built before sanding and finishing. I wasn't happy with some of the detail work so I stopped and it just sat there... for over a year. Recently Spencer decided to buy it so I finished it up.
The top wood and headcap overlay is flame eucalyptus from Santa Rosa, CA. The back is a claro walnut/english walnut graft. Neck is flame maple and wenge with walnut pore filler. The fingerboard is ebony. Everything is bound in black/white/black plastic. The finish is polyester from Lawrence McFadden.
The tuners are Sperzel locking, the bridge is a Hipshot Baby Grand, the pickups are Seymour Duncan, the nut is black corian, fingerboard face and side dots are mother of pearl and fiber optics w/blue LED. The trussrod is LMI double action.
There's an egg shaker inside the body with a contact mic attached to it. There's also two mercury switches wired into the electronics so moving the neck up and down can swap between bridge to neck, bridge to kill, or bridge both pickups. The egg shaker mic also picks up the strings so the bridge to kill setting has some weird sounds too.
The body is just about .5' thick along the edges and about 1.5' at the center. The total weight is 5.25 pounds.
