tanaka-san, how much would a used one cost, I wonder? I guess I can afford not more than 1500. If more, I guess I'll have to get a MusicMan Stingray5 for now. I can get a mint condition skyline for about 1000-1200 but I would like to know about shoreline. You wrote that there are auctions in Japan in August. No deluxe necessary. Condition can be quite used too, scrathes, dings, etc., do not matter at all. The things that do matter are neck, frets and electronics. |

Since Shoreline are not super popular in Japan, unfortunately second hand is not so much in market. Especially serious bassist is buying these instruments, so 1000-1200 is impossible. If so, I will buy all series for collection. May be we need to wait for 2-3 years. Now price level is still 1200-1500 in Japan even in auction. So price in Moscow will be at least 1500USD. Frankly speaking, price of shoreline is more expensive than Music man stinglay 5 in Japan. I have 2 shoreline in Moscow, and I have 2 music man stinglay and 1 fretless stinglay, but if quality of instrument, Lakland is more better than Musicman. Because of ESP's assmbling technology is vey high level. Tanaka 8-916-659-2837 |

Tanaka-san, unfortunately the Laklands and Music Men you have in Moscow are all 4-strings and I was talking about 5-stringed Lakeland and Stingray 5. However, if there is a chance to get a Lakeland at about 1500 or not very much more in Moscow, I will buy one. |

Ok, not 2-3 years, but after 1 year, maybe Sekond hand (in good condition) Lakland will be in Japanese market. In that case, we can get in good price. Let's wait. Basically Lakland was studying Fender VIntage and Musicman. So more or less, Lakland sounds like Fender and Musicman. (kakita portse pahoje) I have 2 Lakland now (4string), but when I am playing in Band, sound of Lakland can be stolongly exist in ensambles. Musicman, I think diference when I play only bass, and play in band is very big. When I play only bass, musicman sounds very good. But when I play in Band, musicman's sound can't come to ear. Maybe it is because of Active. Tanaka 8-916-659-2837 |

It might be. But if I'm not mistaken, both Lakland 55-94/55-02 and Stingray 5 use the same principle of passive humbucker and active preamp. But as of lakland, I read reviews where they stated: "in active mode it sounds like the same (full passive) bass, only louder". They must have worked pretty hard on their electronics. You wrote: "when I play only bass...", you meant like, solo? |
